The other day I was taking Evan, now three-years-old, for a ride in his wagon. As we went around, we discovered the ground was covered with sticks. The night before, a storm had passed through, blowing the dead branches onto the ground. As he and I loaded up the wagon with these sticks, it made me think about how incredible nature is. Incredible in regard to how God has a way of stirring the wind to clear out the old to make room for the new life. Like the trees, we, too, have storms in our lives which cause our old ways and habits to fall away as we develop a newness about us; it’s as if the winds of life blow us into the creatures God intended for us to become. As the storms continue to blow in our lives, may we channel the energy from these storms into something positive, maybe even something positive for God. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
